CREUSABRO 4800

Creusabro® 4800 is a high performance wear resistant steel, exhibiting a wear resistance 50% higher than that of conventional 400HB water quenched steel.
Rather than relying exclusively on a high hardness level, properties of Creusabro® 4800 are improved as a result of the combination of an enriched alloying content (chromium, nickel, molybdenum and titanium) and specific heat treatment procedures.

Creusabro® 4800 is designed to offer the best possible optimization of an exceptional wear resistance and very acceptable workability.

The moderate hardness of Creusabro® 4800 in the as delivered condition makes processing operations like cutting, machining and forming easier and far better than ordinary water quenched steels.

Creusabro® 4800 strongly improves its wear resistance by a surface hardening effect of about +70 HB under the action of local plastic deformations caused by impact with rocks or pressure by the abrasive particles.

Creusabro® 4800 is ideal for applications in mines and quarries, cement and steelmaking industries, public works and agricultural machinery. The grade is suitable for all types of abrasion, sliding or impact, dry or wet environments, including operating temperatures up to 350 – 450°C.

CREUSABRO  4800 METALLURGICAL CONCEPT

Abrasion resistance is not exclusively associated with the hardness of the steel in the supplied condition. Also the chemical composition and metallurgical structure strongly influence the actual performance in service. The balanced chemical composition and the manufacturing processes applied to Creusabro® 4800 develop a metallurgical structure, which contributes strongly to the improvement of its wear resistance through effects described here after.

Work hardening in service

When entering in service, Creusabro® 4800 exhibits a surface hardening of about 70 HB whatever the applied strain level is (impact, pressure.)

Delay of chip removal

Creusabro® 4800 has the advantage of a higher capacity for plastic deformation caused by impacts. This improved ductility contributes to a delay in the chip removal from the steel by abrasive particles, thus ensuring a slower wear rate (weight loss) than on ordinary water quenched steels.

  • Quarries & Public works – Blades, Bucket liners, crusher lateral stiffeners, screens, dumper bodies
    and trommels.
  • Mines – Extraction equipment, conveyor bottom plates, hoppers, helical gravity and screw conveyors, skips, ventilators, discharge plates.
  • Cement plants – Wheel excavators buckets, crusher lateral shield, clinker chutes, buckets, ventilators, dust separators, bagging machines.
  • Steel plants – Guiding plates, hoppers, chutes, discharge plates, scrap containers/charging boxes.

CREUSABRO 8000

A high performance wear resistant steel

CREUSABRO® 8000 is a high performance wear resistant steel, exhibiting a wear resistance 50% higher than that of conventional 500 HB water quenched steel.
CREUSABRO® 8000(P) uses an innovative concept, based on a unique combination of chemical analysis and heat treatment procedures (oil quenching). This confers to the steel an improved wear resistance by the contribution of:

  • a very fine distribution of chromium and molybdenum microcarbides reinforcing the microstructure with the same principal as composite materials.
  • a very efficient work hardening capability in service, coming from a metallurgic effect called TRIP effect (TRansformation Induced by Plasticity).
  • In addition to its high wear resistance, CREUSABRO® 8000(P) still maintains a very good aptitude to processing, far better than that of other 500 HB water quenched steels. CREUSABRO® 8000(P) offers the best possible optimization of an exceptional wear resistance and a very acceptable
    workability.

CREUSABRO  8000 METALLURGICAL CONCEPT

Abrasion resistance is not exclusively connected to the hardness of the steel in the as delivered condition. Its components and its structure strongly influence its performance. Chemical balance and manufacturing processes of CREUSABRO® 8000(P) impart a metallurgical structure to the steel which strongly improves its wear resistance through the following properties.

Work hardening in service

When entering into service, In service work hardening thanks to TRIP effect CREUSABRO® 8000(P) takes advantage of a surface hardening effect of about 70HB, whatever the applied strain level is (impact, pressure)

Delay of chip removal

Creusabro® 8000(P) has the advantage of a higher capacity for plastic deformation caused by impacts. This extra-ductility induces a delay in the chip removal ensuring a slower wear rate (weight loss) than on 400HB water quenched steels

Creusabro® 8000 can be used with success in a wide range of application – as example:

  • Bucket liners for excavator, shovel, loader, dozer
  • Cutting edges, stiffeners… for different types of buckets
  • Truck tray body liners
  • Wear parts for primary and secondary crushers
  • Vibratory feeder liners
  • Chute liners
  • Hopper liners
  • Screens
  • Trommels
  • Pipe elbows
  • Cyclones
  • Deflectors
  • Grinder liners (SAG Mill)
  • Demolition tools (recycling)
  • Pipes for dredging
  • Blade liners for heavy duty fans

CREUSABRO DUAL

High performance impact-abrasion wear resistance steel

Creusabro Dual is a new, advanced, high-performance grade of abrasion resistant steel dedicated to severe impact and sliding wear conditions in service. Thanks to its outstanding wear resistance, the use of Creusabro Dual should be considered in applications where conventional water quenched steels (500 HB, 550 HB), hard faced plates, or cast wear parts are traditionally used.

Creusabro Dual advanced properties have been created using an innovative metallurgical concept, based on a unique combination of chemical composition and heat treatment procedures (oil quenching), which reduces the level of residual stresses encountered with drastic quenching methods such as water. This confers to Creusabro Dual an outstanding extra wear resistance, a strong resistance in extreme impact and sliding conditions and a very efficient work hardening capability in service.

No other steel offers such high wear and abrasion resistance at this level of hardness (500HB), combined with high resistance to cracking in service.

CREUSABRO DUAL CONCEPT

Wear resistance depends not only on the hardness of the steel at delivered state, but also on other properties, such as crack resistance, work hardening effect, strength, ductility, softening resistance, etc. The performance in service of given wear resistant steel is strongly influenced by the microstructure obtained
after thermal processing.

Work hardening in service

“TRIP effect” : TRansformation Induced by Plasticity.
As its initial structure not fully martensite (a mix of martensite, bainite and retained austenite), Creusabro Dual has the ability to work-harden when submitted to local plastic deformation in service. Plastic deformation induces a surface hardening phenomenon by transformation of retained austenite into fresh and very hard martensite while the material remains ductile underneath, making it most effective to withstand both abrasion and heavy impact in service.

Titanium carbides

The extreme abrasion resistance versus the conventional wear resistant steels (500HB, 550HB) is gained by the presence of the primary titanium carbides which are precipitated during the first stage of the solidification (already present within the semi-products, slab or ingot, before rolling and heat treatment). These titanium carbides exhibit an average hardness of 3000HV (Vickers hardness) and therefore create numerous hard spots in the steel matrix like crushed gravel in concrete.

CREUSABRO 6400 (COMING SOON)

Creusabro 6400 : the best combination between wear resistance and formability

Creusabro 6400 is a new generation abrasion-resistant steel with high Manganese content (4%). This evolved wear resistant steel is a perfect value for money product capable to outlast a lifetime of conventional water quenched steels (450HB, 500HB, 550HB).
Very hard, but easy to process with an excellent bending ability, produced out of more than 85% of scrap for reducing CO2 footprint, Creusabro 6400 will harden strongly in service to fight wear!

Creusabro 6400: Smart is the new Hard!

CREUSABRO 6400 METALLURGICAL CONCEPT

Besides the 4800 and 8000 grades, Creusabro® 6400 is genuinely different than classical low alloyed martensitic abrasion resistant plates. The original chemical composition and the soft quenching rates used in the mill fabrication process develop a uniform through-hardened plate having a multiphase microstructure with retained austenite. This unique metallurgical combination enhances the capacity of surface exposed to wear to increase its hardness up to +70 HB under the action of local plastic deformations caused by impact with rocks or pressure by the abrasive particles. This is known as TRIP–effect (Transformation Induced Plasticity).
